Bruce E. Mitchell

Bruce E. Mitchell passed away on March 22, 2017 after a more than 22-year battle with Cancer. Bruce served as founder and principal of The Mitchell Law Firm for over 35 years in his devotion to the Transportation Industry.

Bruce was born in Tacoma Park, Maryland, received his Bachelor's degree from Gettysburg College and then obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with honors. While at North Carolina, he worked in the summers as a legal intern in the Department of Justice, Antitrust Division in Washington, D.C. After graduating, Bruce was admitted to the Bar of the District of Columbia and worked for the Interstate Commerce Commission in its attorney Honors Program.

Bruce was a member of the Transportation Lawyers Association holding various positions over the years and had served as founding Chair of its Commercial and Business Litigation Section from its inception in 2003 to 2014. He was a member of the Litigation Section of the Georgia Bar Association and the Atlanta Bar. He was a lecturer with the Transportation Claims Prevention Counsel and had been an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association. Bruce had also served as a mediator for the Transportation Lawyers Association and its ADR Council, Inc.

Bruce was admitted to practice in the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. He was also admitted to the federal District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia. He practiced through local counsel in state and federal courts throughout the United States.

Bruce lived in Atlanta with his wife Carolyn and their dog, Ellie. He served on the Board of Directors of a large private school in Atlanta and as chair of its Scholarship Foundation. A scholarship fund for disadvantaged students has been established in his name at the school.
